At the start of class, students can take the mineral practical test #2. If they don't take the test, they can wait in the commons until finished. Afterward, we practiced fossil identification with a few samples placed at each table.
Devonian Fossil Gorge field trip is tomorrow. You will be dismissed from class at 1:25 and need to be on the bus at 1:30pm. We will return to school by 2:50pm. Mineral Practical #2 is Friday, 9/17. If interested in taking it a second time, I will keep the higher score from Mineral Practical #1 and #2.
On Wednesday, we will take our field trip to the Devonian Fossil Gorge. We will dismiss from 3rd block classes that day at 1:25 so we can get the the buses by 1:30pm. At the Devonian Fossil Gorge, we will be looking to find and identify fossils that we are learning in class. To prepare to identify fossils at the Devonian Fossil Gorge we observed and sketch 9 different fossils. At the end of class, we watched a little more of the movie Goonies. Our Maquoketa Caves field trip is next Wednesday, 9/23. If miss the field trip, research the Maquoketa Caves and take a target test to substitute the field experience at the park. While some students are taking the mineral properties test, other students will be practicing for the mineral practical test.
