Continue work with weather maps by learning how to draw contour lines. We worked through pages 45-48 in the geology packet.
Today, we took the Cloud Practical #1 and then started work with weather maps. We worked through pressure, surface observation symbols and air masses on pages 41-44 in the geo meo packet.
Added change of clouds that come with a warm and cold front... Used cloud cards to identify clouds on yesterday's blog post. Afterward, tried identifying clouds without cards. Cloud Identification Practical Test tomorrow... practice test(s) below. Use cloud cards to help review, but can't use cloud cards on practical test tomorrow. We made a cloud in a jar using some basic ingredients. Afterward, we talked about how the water cycle is involved in making clouds. If have time, play some pictionary with cloud identification. A second practice is on todays blog post to help review for Cloud Practical #1. We talked about cloud name meanings and took notes on page 1. Then went back at cloud paintings and looked at characteristics to name clouds. Then we looked at "Clouds and Weather" video clip and answered video questions on page 1. Afterward, we looked at "Predicting Weather with the Clouds" interactive and answered interactive questions on page 1-2. At the end of class when the paintings were dry then we looked at characteristics to name clouds. We also, listed the weather predicted with each cloud type. Cloud Practical Test #1 on Wednesday, 10/28. ![]()

Today, we reviewed Iowa Geology and the target test is tomorrow.
This week, we will split our time between relative dating and weather maps. Then, we tried contouring analysis online interactive. When complete, we practiced finding contours on a few practice maps. Practice maps 1-5 were given to help prepare students for temperature weather map test on Thursday and the pressure weather map test on Friday. We started by looking at a few relative dating problems and completing relative dating handout about what rocks can tell you. The Geology Final is on Monday (10/19) and Tuesday (10/20) next week. Students can use any notes/work they have kept throughout the quarter to help them with the test. Review rock texture and genesis for each rock type. Rock texture/genesis test tomorrow. After done, we spent some time practicing rock identification to prepare for taking rock practical #2 on Friday. Taking the rock practical #2 test is optional. To continue with Meteorology work, we looked into Air Masses. The below link will take you to the interactive and the document below is the handout we used to collect information. We practiced plotting surface observation symbols onto on Iowa weather map to find warm and cold air masses. ![]()
